Freight Strategy

Merseyside and Halton have both developed a freight strategy. The Merseyside Freight Strategy builds upon the successes of the LTP1 strategy.

The objective of the Merseyside Freight Strategy is:

To develop and maintain a sustainable freight system that seeks to maximise the opportunities for the movement of goods by rail, effectively manages the highway network to keep traffic moving and to minimise and mitigate the adverse impacts from the movement of freight on road and rail.

The objective of the Halton Freight Strategy is to:

Assist economic regeneration with minimal environmental cost. This will be achieved by: investment in essential major road and rail infrastructure such as the Mersey Gateway and Halton Curve; careful planning and control of developments; and targeted improvements to networks to address capacity, traffic management, parking and signing issues.
