Service and Delivery Plans
Service and Delivery Plans are a new concept and aim to improve the energy efficiency and environmental performance of local freight logistics and goods distribution. This concept will be promoted to businesses whose core activities are freight related including freight generators and hauliers. Although the main focus will be on the activities of the business the FTP would also include a relevant element of a Workplace Travel Plan - such as transport to and from the control office.
Possible actions which could be included as part of a Service and Delivery Plan include:
- An initial assessment of all freight activities such loading factors, current vehicles etc to identify any areas which require action
- Anti idling campaign to help reduce emissions and save operating costs
- Reduced energy cost and consumption through driver training and other technology improvements
- Assessment of existing vehicles and identifying areas for improvement such as energy efficient tyres, energy efficient in cab facilities and aerodynamic vehicle designs
- Possible combination of freight travel plans in the same industrial estate or commercial locations to create an Area Service and Delivery Plan, with potential co-operation in managing goods distribution and deliveries.
