Rail Projects
Olive Mount Chord Rail Scheme
The Olive Mount Chord Scheme aims to improve rail freight access to the Port of Liverpool. The Port of Liverpool is the largest port in the North West and handles around 70% of the region\'s port-related freight tonnage. The port is only accessible by rail freight vehicles via a single track at Edge Lane. This means the freight trains have to perform a complex manoeuvre to access the Seaforth Docks Line. The map illustrates location of the new line.

This £8.4M scheme is
being developed in partnership with the Greater Merseyside
Authorities and Merseytravel, Peel Ports, Mersey Maritime, NWDA and
Network Rail. The scheme is well underway and is likely be
complete by Christmas 2008.
Halton Curve
This provides a link between the Liverpool branch of the West Coast Main Line to the North Cheshire Line at Runcorn. At present it can only be used in the northerly direction, which has led to it falling into disuse. North West Rail has identified reopening this as a priority scheme. This would provide direct services from Liverpool to Chester / North Wales, and improve access to the Mersey Multimodal Gateway and John Lennon Airport.
Canada Dock Branch Line
The reopening of the Bootle Branch line and reinstating rail links to Canada Dock allowing freight access from the Port of Liverpool, is outlined in Liverpool City Councils Core Strategy Prefered Options Report. Click here to go to the report. There are currently no links
